With a focus on cultural and educational integration, Hayek Global College, an international institution based in Brasília, is launching a Portuguese course for foreigners. The goal is to expand the inclusion of the international community into Brazilian culture and strengthen the college’s multicultural academic environment.

Classes will begin on August 19 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, lasting for one academic semester.

Currently, the Federal District (Distrito Federal)—the Brazilian state where the capital, Brasília, is located—is home to 46,085 foreigners, according to 2024 data from the Institute of Research and Statistics (IPEDF), representing 1.55% of the local population. The largest international community in the capital is Venezuelan, with 2,497 residents, followed by Japanese (1,360), Colombian (1,042), and American (960) nationals.

“This initiative reinforces Hayek’s mission to build the largest academic community of foreigners in Brasília by combining high-quality education with cultural exchange,” says Edson Agatti, the institution’s Executive Director.

The course will be taught using an active and dynamic methodology, aligned with Hayek’s educational model, by instructors specialized in teaching Portuguese as a second language. At the end of the semester, participants who reach the required level will receive a proficiency certificate, in one of the following tracks: beginner, intermediate, or advanced.
